On International Women's Day 2025, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Kihumuro Campus, became a hub for powerful discussions on menstrual health, stigma, and empowerment. The event, held under the theme "Accelerate Action", brought together students, experts, and advocates to challenge harmful norms and equip young women with the knowledge they need.
Among the key speakers was Madison Lindeman (PhD, University of Bristol), a representative of Period Talk Uganda, who shared a deep personal story
I was 11 when I got my first period and I was too scared to talk about it. Like many girls around the world, I felt uncertain and alone. But over time, I realized it's a natural part of life."
Madison emphasized that menstrual health should never be a source of shame or misinformation. She highlighted the importance of education and open discussions, encouraging young people to take charge of their reproductive health.
This workshop is a chance to get the right knowledge and to ensure no girl feels lost or ashamed. Let's use this space to ask, learn and empower one another"
The Women's Day event at MUST underscored the need for action, not just talk. Period Talk Uganda reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that menstrual health education reaches more schools, communities and institutions to break period stigma and foster an inclusive environment where girls can thrive.
Together, we are accelerating action for menstrual equity
