As part of the Pad A Girl Campaign, Period Talk Uganda partnered with Uganda Christian University (UCU) to deliver a community outreach at St. Stephen’s Church, Kakira, bringing together students, caregivers and community members to promote menstrual health, wellbeing and community support.
The outreach created a safe and engaging environment where participants received comprehensive menstrual health and hygiene education, equipping them with accurate information to challenge stigma, promote healthy menstrual practices and strengthen support for girls managing menstruation with dignity and confidence.
The event attracted 600 participants, with 320 students and caregivers participating in Period Talk Uganda’s menstrual health education sessions. During the outreach, 640 reusable menstrual pads were distributed to improve access to sustainable menstrual products. The partnership also extended support to vulnerable community members through the provision of essential items, reflecting a holistic approach to community wellbeing and ensuring that the outreach responded to needs beyond menstrual health. Beyond menstrual health, the initiative formed part of a broader community outreach that included career guidance and one-on-one counselling, recognising the importance of supporting the overall wellbeing and future aspirations of young people and their caregivers. Kakira Outreach.pdf
By combining menstrual health education, practical support and community partnership, Period Talk Uganda and Uganda Christian University demonstrated the value of integrated, community-centred approaches that advance menstrual equity while responding to the wider needs of vulnerable communities.
