Period Talk Uganda joined Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Kihumuro Campus, in commemorating International Women’s Day, creating a platform for meaningful conversations on menstrual health, stigma and women’s empowerment.
The engagement brought together students, researchers and advocates to promote open dialogue around menstruation, challenge harmful misconceptions and strengthen awareness of menstrual health as an essential component of gender equality and wellbeing. Through interactive discussions, participants were encouraged to ask questions, share experiences and build confidence in managing their menstrual health.

Representing Period Talk Uganda, Madison Lindeman (PhD, University of Bristol) shared her personal journey with menstruation, highlighting the importance of breaking the silence surrounding periods and ensuring that every girl has access to accurate information, supportive communities and the confidence to seek help when needed. Her message reinforced that menstruation is a natural part of life and should never be a source of shame or misinformation.
By participating in the Women’s Day celebrations, Period Talk Uganda reaffirmed its commitment to expanding menstrual health education within universities and other learning institutions, fostering environments where open conversations replace stigma and every young person can thrive with dignity and confidence.
